Food

Having a plaza 2-3 minutes walk from the school gives you a ton of options to choose from at lunch, apart from the canteen food. Here are some recommendations:

(Prices have been removed since I can't keep up with the inflation)

Canteen

mid food and expensive

  • Recommended

    • Chocolate chip cookies: the best thing you can get in the caf, $1 on Black Friday, don’t bother with the other flavours
    • Jamaican patties: decent for the price
    • Pop can: the choices are either all sugar or all diet, seems to be all diet currently
  • Not recommended

    • Fries : it’s rock solid, I guess if you want to play with it
    • All other food: small portion for the price

Pho Metro

good Vietnamese food, friendly owner, 5% off for cash, 300 ($1 for 1 point) points for free medium pho, call 905-888-6999 to order, closed on Mondays

  • Recommended

    • E1 broth with E7 noodles: cheapest thing to pho you can get
    • student special: grilled pork/chicken rice with pop can, pretty decent but just 2 3 slices of meat, I personally prefer pork
    • Bánh xèo: it’s good
    • Pho: it doesn’t say on the menu but there’s a small option
    • Mango smoothie: redeemable with 150 points, it’s good
  • Not recommended

    • Jackfruit smoothie: well the name sounds fun, but it tastes weird

Chrisly Cafe

one of the best HK cafes in Markham, really good service and the better option compared to Cha Kee next door, sets usually come with cold drinks, 10% off for students paying in cash, no discounts on split bill, order online or call 905-887-9966

  • Recommended

    • Baked tomato pork chop rice: comes with two pieces of pork chop and a cold drink, really filling
    • Special set: same price as Cha Kee but with two extra sausages
    • Black pepper pork chop rice: better than Cha Kee’s, that one tastes like gravy with black pepper
    • Milk tea: less milky but strong tea
  • Not Recommended

    • Two topping noodles: not the best bang for buck, but it’s good for specific cravings like pork intestines, 河粉 is really soft and broken

Cha Kee

after the opening of Chrisly, it has become the less favourable option along with a price increase, however they do offer 12% off for students, sets usually come with cold drinks

  • Recommended

    • Satay beef stir fried spaghetti: Monday special, but really tasty
    • Baked tomato pork chop rice: the pork chop is one big tonkatsu
    • Satay Beef & Eggs on Instant Noodles: really good but small portion
    • Milk tea: really milky and strong tea, I love it but if you’re lactose intolerant stay away
  • Not Recommended:

    • Cream sauce: do not get anything with cream sauce, you might as well pour water on your food

Pizza Nova

decent pizza for decent price, line up on the right in front of the pizza display to order then line up at cashier

  • Recommended

    • Slices: cheap, all of them are reheated with an oven, nothing too special, $2 more for a bag of chips and drink
  • Not Recommended:

    • none

BBQ Chicken

really expensive, don’t go unless you’re rich or you’re sharing with friends, they take a long time to make the food so call 289-554-7377 to order ahead of time, bill splittable

  • Recommended

    • Chicken: my go-to order is boneless cheesling, everything else is also good though, around 8-9 pieces per box
    • Rose tteokbokki: tasty, kinda small portion
    • Popcorn chicken with drink: when you want to get fried chicken but you’re broke
  • Not Recommended

    • Shrimp toast: Not worth it for 6 pieces
    • Cheese balls: Sometimes it’s discounted, not worth it still just eat your fried chickens

Pine Tree Garden

typical old-fashioned Chinese place, portion is good for the price, not very familiar with the place

  • Recommended

    • idk
  • Not Recommended

    • milk tea, coffee, soup: all bland

Sharable Bakery

Hong Kong bakery, it’s cheap but it’s what you expect for the price, nothing special

  • Recommended

    • Pineapple bun: the only thing good about this is the price, probably the cheapest thing that will get you full
    • Mango smoothie: I heard it was good
    • Egg tarts: the cookie one is kinda crumbly, but it’s cheaper
  • Not Recommended

    • Beef brisket rice: tasteless, buy something else

Coco

There's always deals going on, order in their app, 10 points (1 drink 1 point) for a free drink, check your order carefully to see if they missed any toppings. They also have monthly special deals, check out for that.

  • Recommended
    • Brown Sugar Pearl Latte: really sweet, no 0 sugar option
    • Bubble Gaga: when you want crunchy and chewy and sweet and kinda crunchy
    • Three Guys: it has pudding
  • Not Recommended
    • Oolong milk tea: it’s just bad

The Alley

a good place to chill, smaller and more expensive boba than Coco

  • Recommended
    • Royal No. 9: they have discounts on the 9th every month
  • Not Recommended
    • nothing
